Acne ProblemsAcne is primarily a disorder of the sebaceous glands around hair follicles of the skin when the natural secretion of the follicles accumulate and mixes with dust and dirt. These secretions inflame the follicle causing blackheads and, when acted upon by bacteria, a zit.
The secretions, called sebum, are produced beginning at puberty and are intended to lubricate the skin. The bacteria Propionibacterium Acnes normally live on the sebum and, when they multiply, causes the acne inflammation.
It occurs primarily in adolescents but can also affect adults.
