What Is Eczema?

Eczema is an inflammatory, chronic, stubborn itchy rash that occurs in people with irritable skin. It is a general term encompassing various inflamed skin conditions but is usually the final manifestation of many different skin disorders.

If you look at eczema photos, you will see the condition characterized by a number of various cutaneous lesions and are normally accompanied by a serous fluid and intense itching.

The infection can occur on just about any part of the body although it occurs more frequently in several areas. In infants, eczema typically occurs on the forehead, cheeks, forearms, legs, scalp, and neck. In children and adults, eczema usually occurs on the face, neck, and the insides of the elbows, knees, and ankles.

The real cause of eczema is not clear but it frequently runs in families. People with the condition often exhibit very irritable skin with sensitivity to many chemical products like soap and detergents.

There are many available treatments for eczema, including topical and oral medications. It is generally advised to stay away from potential irritants during treatment to avoid aggravating the condition as well as prevent its interference with the medication.
